Not receiving the response from the companies. It’s time to update your Resume…..
First and foremost, avoid the fancy layouts, font and other special effects. The best effect if any is to stick to the traditional “Times New Roman” with a size of 10 to 12, and black font color has and will always remain the best presentation on a white paper. You may try a different size for your name, accomplishments and companies that you have worked for in-order to highlight the titles. Remember to be consistent and go easy on bold type, italics, and underlining in your resume.
The word format document can easily be viewed on most of today’s computer’s. The same however does not apply to the tabular format. List your jobs in a chronological order. Your current job being the first in the list followed by the previous company/companies you have worked with. You must state the complete name of the company and what they do, how long you were their employee. Then we should list the position held and your accomplishments in the company. No need to use the full sentences. Begin with verbs as follows:-
“Managed company tax reporting, finance, invoicing, purchasing”.
Few important tips to enhance your resume are as follows:-
ü Get rid of objectives and summary and all that silly stuff. An employer doesn’t bother going through these copy-paste lines. However, they do care about their own objective i.e.
ü Skip personal details such as ‘married with three kids’. Sounds acceptable to you? It is but for a travel agent not the hiring department of the company. It may even keep you from even being called for an interviewed.
ü Numbers, statistics, percentages get desired attention from the employer, if you put in bold type such as:-
“Increased profit by 28%“.
“Came under budget by 30%“.
ü Use words that refer to titles- customer service, controller, manager, accountant etc. Fuzzy words and phrases should be avoided at all cost. These include customer-oriented, excellent communications skills and creative. These words lack meaning and do absolutely nothing to help you crack an interview.
ü Get the photos off your resume. You are looking for a job, not a date. Right?
I certainly hope its not for a DATE!!!!!!!!!!!
Will be back with more tips, till then keep strengthening your resume, it’s one of the many steps towards your DREAM JOB.
